Stand Up Paddling

Introductory Stand Up Paddleboarding

Have you ever wanted to learn to walk on water? See people standing up on huge "surfboards" and think it looks fun? It is! Easy to learn the basics, and great core workout! Improve and increase you balance and core muscles, while having a great time on the water! Unlike surfing you don't need waves to be able stand up paddle. In your beginning lesson, you will learn techniques to be able to stand up on the board, and paddle with correct technique, all in the safe and calm waters at Shoreline Lake. Once you've learned the basics, you can come back and rent a board to practice your new skills! In a lesson, the first 30 min will be on land, talking about the different parts of the board and how to get on and stand up. The next hour or so will be spent on the water. While this may not seem like a long time, it will be a good workout for you if you've never paddled!

Students should bring comfortable clothes, a jacket or fleece, a towel and change of clothes, lots of sun protection, a lanyard to secure their glasses around their heads, a bottle of water, and non-skid/non-marking shoes (water booties, aquasocks or Teva sandals work great!).

    Private Lessons

The Shoreline Aquatic Center offers a variety of classes to aid you in reaching your dreams of sailing into the sunset, winning gold medals windsurfing, or kayaking down unexplored rivers.

We also understand that there comes a time when you just need some one-on-one work with an expert to perfect that jibe, to delve into the nuances of racing tactics, or to refine that stroke. In these cases, a private lesson is just what you need!

Private lessons are also an option if you have definite scheduling conflicts or want to organize a special group event.

    Private Lessons
    Semi-Private Lessons

To schedule, please call the Boathouse at least one week before the date you desire your lesson in order to guarantee instructor and equipment availability. We will do our best to accommodate your wishes!

Private lessons are aimed at meeting the needs of more advanced enthusiasts who have already taken a group lesson or who have gained experience on their own. While we may be able to schedule a beginner level private lesson if extenuating circumstances exist, private lessons should not be viewed as a true alternative to the intro classes. We will not sell a one hour introductory private lesson as such a short lesson tends to breed frustration more than a love of the sport.

    Summer Camp

    Summer Camps

Kayaking, windsurfing, pedalboating, sailing, and more... Shoreline offers three different camps to suit the interests, skills and age level of every participant. Besides being fun, local and safe, kids get the chance to burn off all that summer energy and keep their minds engaged by learning watersports - without the risk of the actual Bay.

    Camp Shoreline

Camp Shoreline engages even the liveliest child! A classic day camp experience for 5-11 year olds, with a mix of watersports and land activities, it's the perfect combination of the cerebral and physical to spark a camper's creativity and enthusiasm for learning. Campers get to kayak, canoe, row or cycle the pedalboats, and also take part in a variety of different activities, including playing games, participating in crafts, taking a sailboat ride, learning about Shoreline Park by hiking and birdwatching in its wildlife sanctuary, or even dropping by the historic Rengstorff House museum for a visit.

    10am-3:00pm, Ages 5-11, $375

    Windsurfing and Sailing Level 1

For 9-15 year olds wanting to learn how to windsurf and sail, we offer a Level I, hands-on Windsurfing & Sailing day camp that helps campers learn the basics and gain confidence. The supportive learning environment helps campers progressively develop each essential skill which includes water safety, and board and boat handling basics, with daily on-the-water exercises. New windsurfers start out on a land simulator to gain a solid understanding of wind direction and board handling before heading out on the water, and when sailing, students alternate skipper and crew duties to ensure they learn both positions.

    9am-2:00pm, Ages 9-15, $415

    Windsurfing and Sailing Level 2

For 9-15 year olds wanting to further hone their windsurfing and sailing abilities, we offer a comprehensive Level II Windsurfing & Sailing camp. Along with learning more advanced techniques, topics covered include refining sail trim, heel control and sail shape controls, as well as intensive sailing drills and informal racing. Extensive on-the-water instruction helps campers to keep developing the necessary skills that allow them to continue challenging themselves in these rewarding sports, which will yield them a lifetime of fulfillment.

    11:30am-4:30pm, Ages 9-15, $430

The Level III camp runs for three hours per day. It introduces one design dinghy racing to children between 12 and 16 yrs old and covers all necessary skills to be prepared for racing at a high school level. The course covers the most common right of way rules, how the starting sequence works, and the basics of strategy vs. tactics around the course. In addition to comprehensive drills to improve skills associated with racing, during the last three days a mini regatta will be held that tests what the campers have learned with some friendly competition.

Campers must be approved by Shoreline Aquatic Center's sailing instructors to enroll in Level III. Shoreline's staff will be contacting candidates for this camp. If you believe your camper is ready to advance to Sailing Level III, please contact our office at (650)965-7474.

    Wine Series

Shoreline Lake offers informal wine tasting via their seasonal, in-house Wine Seminar Series, "From Grape Juice to Vintners Reserve."

Independent of each other, these seminars are a great way to "dip a toe" and learn some useful basics, while having a relaxing time after work, in pleasant surroundings.

Perfect for anyone overwhelmed by, or unfamiliar with, wine, each seminar focuses on a practical topic, showcased by the wines provided during the tasting, without needing to make a huge commitment of time or engage in serious study.

    Schedule & Registration

All seminars are held at the Lakeside Café at a convenient time in the afternoon/evening (depending on the season), so participants can also enjoy the waterfront view as part of the event. Scheduling for any seminars noted as TBD will be finalized shortly.

Individual and group registration - up to 5 attendees, for each seminar - is available online for all scheduled seminars.
