Clubs & Racing
Member and spectator activities for the organized sailing racing, outrigger and kayak polo sports clubs based at Shoreline Lake, plus free community days, demos and more.
Fremont Sailing Club
During the 2025 racing season, the Fremont Sailing Club will host races at Shoreline Lake on Sundays throughout the spring, summer and fall.
Also a co-host for the free Sail-A-Dinghy-Day that launches the season, this small boat club – sailing an assortment of dinghies (such as Lido 14, El Toro, Sunfish, Lasers, Holders and others) – welcomes everyone.
Drop by and enjoy fun and friendly (competitive) sailing: You can crew on someone else’s boat, bring your own boat, or rent a Shoreline sailboat. Races begin with a skippers meeting at 10:30 am and typically include three or more races per day, depending on lake conditions
The FSC, in addition, sails and takes part in events at other venues around Northern California. More details and contact info are available on their website.

Ho'oku'i Outrigger Canoe Club
If your New Year’s resolution is to try something new, Shoreline is also home base for an outrigger canoe club (Ho’oku’i – Hawaiian for “to join together”).
The Club encourages everyone to check out their practices. You’ll see club members in action on the lake, plus you can give it a go in a canoe. Although active on the racing scene, all skill levels and ages (including kids) are welcome – the Club provides a short “how-to” that even novices can then apply on the water.
Practice times are:
- Tuesday & Thursday, 5:30pm-7:30pm
- Saturdays, 8:30am-11:30am
Not sure about joining? Check out the free Outrigger Community Days here at Shoreline. These are great opportunities for the public to meet the Club members, learn the cultural history of the sport, receive novice instruction, and try paddling in an outrigger. As always, Club membership is open to those who would like to join.

Kayak Polo Club
Want to take part in an activity that pushes your limits even more? The US National Team for the Bay Area Kayak Polo Club (which consistently ranks among the top teams in North America) practices here.
Likened to a cross between water polo, basketball and hockey, this unique, fun, dynamic, and internationally competitive sport offers quite the physical challenge. The BAKPC, however, also makes this high-octane activity accessible: In addition to their membership including a Youth division, they welcome paddlers of all ages.
It’s a spectator-friendly activity too. Whether watching a practice or the organized competitive events held at Shoreline Lake (Kayak Polo Cup of the West tournament – April 12-13, 2025 – as well as national competitions, organized by the BAKPC), this sport is full of non-stop excitement.
Practice times are:
The first Sunday of the month, 10am-1:30pm
You can learn more about the Bay Area Kayak Polo Club on their website, or by contacting Andrew Irvine for additional information.
